When you have finally pieced together your quilt top you will need to consider how it should be completed. A picture is normally enhanced by being displayed in an appropriate frame and a patchwork quilt benefits from the same consideration but with a quilt it is called a border.
A quilt can have just a simple border or it may be more complex with two or more borders in varying colours according to the effect you are trying to create. It is important to consider the size of the border in relation to the size of the quilt. It needs to sit well without overpowering the quilt design but equally it does not want to be so narrow that it looks stupid.
A quilt border gives the quilt substance and almost makes sense of the quilt.
