Rachel's Star
Name: Rachel's Star
By: Eve from Edinburgh
Description from Eve:
This quilt started when I fell in love with the Makower Cascade fabrics, which were inspired by Klimt. They sat in my stash for a while until I found this pattern in an online quilt magazine and realised that they were a perfect match. Wendy was marvellously helpful when I needed to find just the right light blues, and found me a fabulous pine cone fabric, which is almost solid gold metallic, as an accent fabric. Inspired by the way Jinny Beyer uses border fabrics, I made the centre hexagon from six carefully-cut triangles, and also used the stripe border fabric to make the outside border look more complicated than it really is. I made the quilt by hand in a fortnight and gave it to the Edinburgh Liberal Jewish Community. They are a small community who don't yet have premises of their own and hold services in various community centres and churches, so this quilt is a good size for table or wall hanging use and helps make the place look a bit more Jewish.
